Configuring Canon printer drivers on MacOS devices

This article will guide you or your IT team through the installation and configuration process for Canon print drivers on a MacOS device. This contains step by step instructions to take you through each stage of the installation process, along with screenshots for reference. Installing the drivers

Navigate to the Canon website and scroll down to the bottom of the page, then select Drivers.  

Search for your printer model and select it from the list.

Within the drivers section, select the MacOS operating system version corresponding to your device and download the driver.  


Once downloaded, proceed through the on-screen installation instructions.

Adding the printer

To add the printer(s) on to your MacOS device, search for "Printers & Scanners" on your device using the Finder (magnifying glass in the top-right corner).

Notes
You will require to be logged in as an account with administrator privileges or alternatively input the administrator account credentials when prompted during this process.
Press "Add Printer, Scanner or Fax..." and follow the on-screen process. You can add the printer either by IP address of the device or via AirPrint, repeat this process for each printer as needed.

Configuring driver settings

To configure the driver settings / preferences, use the Finder (magnifying glass) again and search for "Terminal".

Within the Terminal window, type in 'Cupsctl Webinterface=yes' as demonstrated below and click Enter:

Open your browser (Safari/Chrome) and navigate to http://localhost:631/printers in the address bar

You will be met by this page, click on the name of the printer you're looking to configure the driver for.

Choose "Modify Printer" from the drop-down list as shown below.


Select the driver settings you would like to use, once the necessary options are selected, close the Terminal window down and test the printer using the new driver settings.
